Plywood palmrests for UHK80 [available for sale]

Wanted to take photos at some more representative place, but it will have to do as I am clearly too lazy :see_no_evil_monkey:.

5mm plywood, oiled.

As cam be seen, the oil dissipates quickly from these. Areas that are touched lost a lot of saturation over the two months of usage, as can be seen especially on the left half.

Given my replacement palm rests are starting to bubble, definitely would be interested in these if you were selling them!

That’s unfortunate. How long have you had the new pads?

Start of July was when I got them.

Yikes!
:grimacing:

This shouldn’t happen anymore. Please contact us and send photos.

I have made a couple spare, and may make some more in future. I doubt actual profitability, so this is probably going to remain a hobby/experiment initiative.

Given feedback about palm rests of uhk80 being too short, I have also designed a larger version, so that is available too.

Anyone who wants a standard size walnut is advised to wait, as an official product is planned and is likely to be superior in quality.

You can order them here:

Those look so good!
(I’d be all over 'em if recent political nonsense hadn’t destroyed my finances for the next few months.)

Have you tried the longer version with a riser? I thought about longer palm rests, but I think I’d probably also need to extend the base to keep it stable. Not sure how to go about that yet.

Based on a quick test, I don’t think there are going to be stability issues. I am more afraid of how to keep the palm rest in place when force is applied at the edge - I assume it to be attached with a double sided tape, which has its limits.

I can’t easily test it properly, as I have all my keyboards modified in a way that makes them incompatible :person_facepalming:.

Nice work  Concerning the oil: presumably, it’s no problem to reapply oil and then the problem is solved? Which oil do you use?

Indeed!

Almond oil for those walnut ones in the first post. (Generally, nut oils should work well, unlike some other edible oils that degrade over time.)

In the Etsy versions, I am using osmo top oil, which is supposed to be an oil plus hard wax solution that should be much more indestructible.
