To flash the firmware you need to plug the USB cable into the RHS, then into the LHS, then back into the RHS. (Or maybe the cable was already plugged into the RHS, you still need to move it to the LHS and eventually back.) Finicky work with the recessed USB sockets under the keyboard halves.
So, convenience tip: Get some of these USB-C “extender” adapters (or anything similar there are a bunch out there, they’ll surely all work - these particular ones, first ones that came up in an Amazon search, happen to stick out past the UHK-80 case about 3/16" making them easy to use for inserting/removing cables). Stick one in the RHS permanently and one in the LHS permanently. Done!
If you have both halves connected via two USB cables during FW upgrades, then you don’t need to swap the cables😉. I also use aviator cables, which allow for quick disconnects when needed.
Never heard of aviator cables, thank you! But a search on Amazon showed me a set with what look like threaded connectors - which makes sense for an aviation use - don’t want the headset to become disconnected during acrobatics (intentional or otherwise). Doesn’t that slow down the switch? Or is such a thing also available with friction connectors?
(I don’t really want two cables to connect as a general rule … I suppose if I was doing firmware development that’d be quite useful though …)
NVM! Found a different set with friction connectors. Thanks for the tip!
That depends on the quality of the connector. A good threaded aviator will spin fully open/closed with a short flick, and then you just pull it apart. It definitely beats fumbling around to find the tiny USB-C ports.
There’s a few different types of quick connectors out there. You may be interested in some of the push/pull connectors like YC8, or Lemo connectors. I’ve even seen some push-button mini XLR’s.
