Extra space character inserted while taping at random frequency

Since last week, I can’t write properly on the keyboard (UHK 80) as an extra space is inserted at random occurrence. (See this message as example). If I use my macbook keyboard or any other external keyboard, this issue does not appear.

I upgraded to latest firmware, I did a complete reset, restarted my operating system multiple times and nothing helped.

I don’t have any special macros, or advance typing behavior configured. The only thing that I changed in the last week, was upgrading mac to the latest version: Tahoe 26.3.

Does anyone have an idea what is the reason and how one can fix it?

Nobody else has reported this issue yet. Does this issue persist after replacing your space key switch with another?

The spaces are inserted when space is tapped, right?

Troubleshooting repeated and missing keystrokes - Ultimate Hacking Keyboard is the relevant troubleshooting guide.

The first thing to try is to reseat the switch: pull it out, bend its pins a bit (so that they end up tensioned against the side of the hotswap socket) and put it back.

Sorry for so late reply!

Thanks. I will try during the weekend. For now, I use another key for space, and it works, so I think something might have happened with one of the keys.

I had a similar-sounding issue with my N key. I swapped switches, which would sometimes fix the problem temporarily, but it was only getting worse over time. Eventually it went from the occasional issue to quite annoying (70% of the time the key wouldn’t work, and the rest of the time I’d usually get multiple presses), and I took the back off the keyboard to have a look. Turns out that one side of the switch had broken free from the pad (it looked a little light on solder). A quick touch-up with a soldering iron completely fixed the issue!
