Key stopped working

My question mark ( also the slash ) key stopped working all together. It has always been temperamental. I tried flashing the firmware, taking the switch out and back in, every swapping with other switches on the keyboard. The switch works fine, for some reason the question mark key and it’s uppercase slash just doesn’t work.

Being a software dev, this is… a lot more than a minor inconvenience. I really love this keyboard for home and at work usage and I want to get into working order. So if anyone has tips to troubleshoot that would be great!

When you reseated the switch, did you try slightly bending it’s pins to make sure they make better contact with the sides of that particular socket?

If that doesn’t help, you may need to check the PCB to make sure the socket isn’t separating from the board, or having some other physical malfunction. Check #3 in the " Issues affecting individual keys" section of this Troubleshooting repeated and missing keystrokes guide.

If there doesn’t seem to be any obvious physical problem, then maybe share your userConfig to rule out any configuration issues.

One of the switch’s leg receptacle pincer was drifting away. I ended up taking the board apart and getting a friend better with circuits to look at it. Before failure the key was inconsistent. Looking at the back side ( picture ), the solder is just gone. What was left of it prob came off when I tried to re-seat the switch. Likely the lack of solder what allowed the pincer to “drift”. He also noted the USB was floating instead of being soldered and touched up a few other keys but this was the only one that outright failed. Re-soldering the contacts for the switch socket resolved the issue thankfully ( I suppose this is the curse of lead-free solder ).

TL:DR soldering contacts on the backside resolved the issue.

Sorry for the issue, and thanks for sharing the cause and for fixing it!

For the record, this issue was more prevalent around the time you ordered your UHK, and it’s very unusual nowadays.
