I noticed a weird behavior with the batteries, especially the left side one, under firmware 18.0.1, with limit maximum battery charge level active (charge limit to 80) vs inactive.
As I said, ill focus on the behavior of the left side one as this one seem to be a bit more pronounced and with the right side connected to pc while working since neither bt nor dongle work well with that laptop (probably my fault here, work laptop is a bit far), anyway …
So thing it like this:
Limit Charging ON, 80%, battery level 60% → usb power connected → should charge to 80%, instead it does not charge, but not discharge either.
Limit charging OFF, battery level 60% → usb power connected → starts charging to 100%(powe symbol also present on the minidisplay).
I did reset the left half, but no change in behavior.
That’s because the limit is not 80%. It is 3800mV, which is the optimum storage value for LiPol batteries.
This is more nuanced for left half because of the different discharge curves of the two batteries. (Note where the top blue curve intersect right axis’s 3800 - around halfway to 0, which means that the storage voltage is much closer to 50% than 80%.):
so, the context of this behavior is that after around 10 days if not using the keyboard, i found the left half completely empty. After charging, i noticed the behavior from the initial post. While i do understand the limit in voltage, now the charging limit stopped the charge at around 62% and before the depletion it was approx to 80. Ill check with another battery in the future. Is the firmware calibrated to the capacity of the included battery or can differ?
It physically measures the voltage, so it can differ across units as well as across charge cycles.
Everything you write sounds as correct (intended) behavior.
Battery life can be significantle extended by flashing 18.x firmware and disconnecting the keycluster. (Doing either should double the life. Doing both should increase it maybe tenfold.)
I disconnected the keycluster, not using it as much as I was thinking and observe further. yes, I assumed its the normal behavior, though is the first battery that does this, and i have quite a few ones with 100mw that seem more stable after 2y usage.
