I’m thinking of making the switch from Dygma Raise 2 to UHK80 - The main reasons are for the F1-F12 keys and the arrow keys + the mouse attachment.
My question - Raise 2 has a nice padded palm rest - and the UHK80 has wooden palm rests only nowadays - are they comfortable / not too hard?
They feel fine to me. I don’t have any discomfort with regard to their firmness.
I actually like the wooden pads better than the old rubber ones. The rubber pads had a little too much give under my wrists, and they would cause my hands to move away from home row after a while. The wooden pads provide more stability, and I find I don’t need to reposition my hands as often.
Use the wooden rests with my uhk60 and uhk80. I find them quite comfortable.
Same here. Very comfortable typing on my UHK60. I actually prefer the firm support over soft palm rests I had in the past. Which always felt too mushy to really lean in.
When you compare them to the saddle on a bicycle, it’s more like riding on a leather saddle as opposed to a soft gel saddle. The former might take a bit of getting used to, but then all your power goes into the pedals (keys), nothing is lost/absorbed by the counter-support of the saddle (palm rest). 
Not to mention durability and my preference for natural materials.
