V1 with PBT key caps long term review

I’ve been using my UHK v1 now for quite some while with the PBT key caps. This because the ABS key caps were shining like crazy and because the print on some of the key caps had actually become illegible.

At first I was afraid that the double shot caps would be hard to read or would not look good without a backlight. I would personally prefer white instead of transparent symbols on top of the caps, but the caps are perfectly legible and do look fine.

Initially I didn’t like the caps because the top of them felt a bit like sandpaper. I got used to that pretty quick and after a while of use the caps have become smoother. I sincerely hope that isn’t because I’m wearing them down again, we’ll have to see.

I don’t feel much of a difference in overall typing other than that the annoying plasticky feeling has gone. I didn’t feel much of a change in sound either - or at least nothing that bothered me. I’m not a keyboard sound-fanatic though; the more silent the better.

Anyway, if you’re wondering if you should get the PBT caps I would certainly advise to do so quality-wise. If your ABS caps are still fine then it is up to you if you find it worth the price, but if they aren’t it’s basically a no-brainer. Your keyboard will feel as new - assuming that it is otherwise intact of course.

My V1 caps wore out too. I’ve tried a million caps since then. I actually like the rough texture of the newer UHK caps, but I don’t like the OEM profile. I prefer flat/uniform profiles. The KAM profile caps from Yuzu are my go-to nowadays.

Btw, I think you mean PBT, not PCB . Unless you’re rockin’ some of these too…
