Bridge mod: my Ultimate Development Lap-Top Keyboard

This setup features:

  • custom bridge that connects the halves so that the keyboard can be easily carried around and used on my lap, without loosing the trackball.
  • my custom plywood palm rests ( Plywood palmrests: extra long, cherry, walnut, maple [avalialbe for sale] )
  • some development customisations:
    • pins to connect power profilers
    • switches that allow full disconnect of all three battery wires
    • magnet attachments of those jlink connector covers

This is really cool Karel! I love seeing people’s mods.

I’d really like to put some tiny slider switches inside those top covers. Would it be as simple as putting some JST connectors on a couple of switches? If so, could you point me to some proper switches/connectors, etc.?

Can you show us your magnet placement for the covers?

You mean to connect/disconnect power?

There is little space between the pcb and case bottom. I had troubles routing wires from batteries to those top covers just because the pcb is sitting (almost) flush with the case.

As for hardware parts, I don’t think I can.

(My electronics mods are a hobbyist level, no professional knowledge or experience there.)

Yeah, it’d be nice to have some switches, but Idk what I’m doing. Probably best I don’t mess with it tbh :fire: :sweat_smile:.

I have a slight nervousness of lithium fires lurking in the back of my mind quite often, as I live about a block away from an enormous lithium battery manufacturing facility :grimacing: :laughing:.

That bridge made me want to make my keyboard more portable. At first, I considered a bridge like that to go between the modules so I could leave them in, but then the board becomes as wide as most laptops!

But maybe there are other ways to go about solving the loose modules rattling around in the backpack.
