I’ve been living with UHK 80 for a while now. I was/am a UHK 60 v2 user also. I certainly love the keyboard. However, I find the natural resting position for my wrists to be very uncomfortable - my hands want to sit in such a way that the bone on the outside of the wrist (i believe it is called the Psiform) lies off of the palm rest.
i know the palm rest is bonded to the hardware, but i’m wondering whether there is some kind of mod or alternative i could use. any suggestions beyond just getting another wrist rest to put adjacent to the keyboard? my issue with that solution is that there will be a gap between the existing palm rest and the material of the standalone wrist rest, which probably would be just as, if not more, uncomfortable.
You can easily cut or 3d print bigger palm rests out of you favorite material. (When you overlay a flat board over the steel plate, the batteries still fit in just fine.)
I experience this as well. I have to curl my fingers more than is comfortable to keep my wrists on the pad. Throughout the day, I notice the UHK80’s halves tend to slowly shift their angle outwardly at the top, instead of the more neutral inward position. This is due to my subconscious need to feel more surface area under my wrist bones.
I was thinking you could retrofit a wrist pad with an extended edge as well. Maybe about a half inch on the outer edges, and a full inch on the bottom edge, but Idk how well that would work with the riser. It would probably tip too easily. I fear it might also require a redesign/extension of the riser base to fully remedy.
Since they upgraded the old rubber pads to the new walnut version, it’s not quite as bad. The stiffer material makes it just stable enough for me to forget about it for the most part.
@kareltucek (one of the UHK devs) has some extended length palm rests for sale that you may be interested in.
thanks for the info! I think the wooden wrist rest will be enough; I’m trying to understand how long the wrist rest is - if it’s > 90 mm, then it will be fine.

I feel that the weight of my hands is being placed where the hypothenar muscles are, which feels like 5cm below the edge of the keyboard, so the palm rest length will be just enough it seems.
